On July 18, 2023, Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) and Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries have just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on support VASI members to improve their capabilities and linkages to automobile assemblers. This project will be implemented from 2023 to 2024.
Currently, the local manufacturing enterprises have had much more experience in working with multinational buyers. However, there is still a gap to the requirements of automobile manufacturers. This is the reason VASI proposed TMV to implement the project. Specifically, Toyota Vietnam and VASI will implement two main activities: (1) screening and making a list of potential autopart suppliers to connect with automobile assemblers in Vietnam, (2) implementing an operational improvement support program for a number of domestic suppliers to improve production process.
At the signing ceremony, the Deputy General Director of Toyota Vietnam – Mr. Pham Thanh Tung said that the company is committed to giving attention and resources to support VASI members participating in the project and always sets the priority goal in developing supply chain to be maintained and expanded. On behalf of the local firms, Mr. Phan Dang Tuat – VASI President said: “Toyota Vietnam is the first leading company cooperating with VASI to provide the comprehensive project to support the Vietnamese firms in aiming to improve capabilities and strengthening linkages to automobile manufacturers”. Through the project, VASI also expects that the selected Vietnamese participating companies will share the acquired knowledge and spread it to other VASI members and Vietnamese manufacturing community.
Implementing the program, TMV and VASI have vistites and selected eight VASI companies among 25 registerers. Five companies will be selected as the main beneficeries of the project. Other three will be included as observers and will become the main ones in the next term. The selected experts from five companies will be trainned and coached directly at the TMV factory and be consulted onsite at their factories by TMV coachers. Five companies are Phong Nam, Binh Minh Mechanical, Phenikaa, Viet Nhat HTVJ, and Technokom. Three observers are JAT, Innotek, and Binh Thuan Plastics.
Many thanks Toyota Vietnam team and VASI members for actively participating in the project. We wish you all VASI guys will absorb the best knowledge, experience and cooporate culture from Toyota Motors Vietnam.
